Our view of the service

West Hill Care Home is a care home providing accommodation with nursing and personal care for up to 77 people. People’s needs were varied and included those living with dementia, and people with nursing needs. The service was arranged on 4 levels with lift access. The top 2 floors were predominantly for people living with dementia. We commenced our assessment on 21 February 2024 and this concluded on 1 March 2024. We looked at 25 evidence categories in the safe, caring and well led key questions. At our last inspection (published 30 September 2022) the service was rated requires improvement and there were two breaches of regulation: regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) and regulation 17 (good governance). Concerns at our last inspection were related to medicines management, risk assessments, care plan reviews, staff supervisions, food hygiene, the environment, audits and acting on feedback. We looked at all these areas during this inspection and found significant improvements had been made and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations. There were robust processes in place in all these areas, medicines were well managed, risk assessments were comprehensive, care plans had been reviewed regularly, staff had regular supervision sessions, the environment was more suited to people living with dementia, the service was clean in all areas, audits were conducted regularly and the manager had acted on feedback from people.
