Score: 3

Staff understood the importance of people’s diversity. Staff confirmed they had received equality, diversity, and human rights (EDHR) training. A staff member explained they had challenged a colleague historically where they felt their behaviour could have been discriminatory. The manager understood the importance of promoting equality and diversity by ensuring people are treated as individuals and understood people’s cultural needs.

Relatives felt that their family members were treated fairly, and their human rights were respected. We were told that people were treated with respect and kindness. One person said the staff knew and supported his needs and said, “Yes they treat me as one of the crowd”.

Overall people’s care records showed people were supported by relevant healthcare professionals, to support their outcomes. However, it was not always clear if prompt referrals had been made. For example, appropriate actions were not always promptly taken to address any underlying cause of weight loss. The provider had an equality, diversity, and human rights policy in place to protect people and staff against discrimination.
