Our view of the service
Chiswick Nursing Care Centre is a nursing home providing care to older people with nursing needs and people living with dementia. The home can accommodate up to 146 people. At the time of our inspection 146 people were living at the home. Assessment activity started on the 7 February 2024 and ended on 18 March 2024. We looked at 7 quality statements: Safeguarding: Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Independence, choice and control, Equity in experiences and outcomes, Infection control and Safe environments. The site visit was unannounced. We met with 17 people who lived in the home. We spoke with to 2 family members visiting a person in the home and 9 family members by telephone following the site visit. We met with 18 staff including the registered manager. We reviewed records such as care plans for 10 people and recruitment files for 4 staff. Following our visit on site we reviewed a range of service records including, staff training and supervisions matrix, cleaning schedules, accident and incident logs, complaints and safeguarding logs and policies/procedures. We did not assess all quality statements at this inspection. For those areas we did not assess, we used the ratings awarded at the last inspection to calculate the overall rating. We did not identify breaches of any Regulations during this assessment. We will continue to monitor information we receive about the service, which will help inform when we next assess them.
People's experience of this service
People told us they enjoyed living in the home. Relatives told us they felt the home was warm, staff were friendly, and the care was good. However, some people told us there was not always enough staff on duty to have a chat with them socially. Some people told us there was not enough activities to keep them stimulated. There were systems and procedures in place to keep people safe from harm. Staff had regular supervisions and had appropriate training to enable them to do their job role effectively. Some areas of the home needed updating and this was part of an overall plan for the home. People and relatives were very praiseworthy of staff and how caring they were. The service worked with several health care professionals to meet people’s needs.
