Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 28 January 2025. The service is a residential care home providing support to older people including those living with dementia. At the time of this inspection 17 people were living at Gorsefield Residential Care Home. At our last inspection we found 2 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and governance. We issued the provider with a warning notice instructing them when they needed to be compliant with the law. As a result, we undertook this inspection looking at the quality statements in safe and well led only.

At this inspection the provider had made improvements. They were no longer in breach of regulation. The provider had revisited their quality monitoring procedures. These were effective and were overseen by the nominated individuals. A nominated individual is a person with legal responsibility of the service along with the registered manager. People were safe from avoidable harm. The provider had made changes to the physical environment to support the safe provision of care. People were supported promptly as there were enough staff. People received their medicines as prescribed. People understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Where people did not have the capacity to consent to care, staff involved those important to them, to assist in making decisions in the person’s best interest. Managers were visible and supportive. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities.

People's experience of this service

People told us they felt safe and were involved in planning their care. One person told us they felt much safer at Gorsefield Residential Care Home than when they lived on their own. They went on to say they were assessed on arrival and provided with mobility equipment which helped them remain independent and safe. A relative told us their family member was much more settled since moving into Gorsefield Residential Home and this had impacted positively on their continued safety. People felt involved in their home and could raise any issues confidently with the management team. One person said, “We have meeting and can talk about anything we want. It is usually about food and activities, but we have also been involved in the recent redecoration and making decisions about colors. A relative said, “I know I can go to any staff member at any time about absolutely anything and they will sort it, even if it is to offer reassurance or information. I have an open conversation with [registered manager] and have full confidence in them.” People knew staff and leaders well. One person said, “I know [registered manager] is on the ball and if we say anything at all it is done straight away.”
