Our view of the service
We assessed a total of 7 quality statements from the safe, effective and well-led key questions and found areas of good practice and some areas requiring improvement. The scores for these areas have been combined with scores based on the last key question ratings. Though the assessment of these 7 quality statements indicated areas of both requiring improvement and good practice, our overall rating remains ‘requires improvement.’ We did not find breaches of the legal regulation we did identify some areas for improvement. We were assured people were receiving the care and support they required, however, this was not always being recorded consistently in people’s records. People had care plans in place, but they did not always evidence people had been involved in their review. Some people told us they were unfamiliar with their plan of care. We identified some areas of medicines management required improvement; however, people told us they receive their medicines as prescribed and on time by staff who were trained. Any risks to people were adequately mitigated as governance systems and audits were effective in identifying and addressing areas for improvement. There were enough staff to ensure people’s safety and meet their needs. The service was clean and well maintained. People were supported to have choice and control and could give feedback on their care and support.

We spoke with 5 people during our assessment. People told us they felt safe living at Beechcroft Nursing Home and were cared for by staff who were familiar with their needs and preferences. However, not everyone was familiar with their care plan. People told us they received their medicines as prescribed, and felt they had choices in their everyday life.
