Date of assessment – 1 August to the 12 August 2024. Elpha Lodge is a care home registered to provide personal care for up to 24 people. 22 people were living at the service. The service specialises in providing care to people with physical disabilities. This was a responsive assessment due to receiving concerns in relation to the care being provided regarding people’s dietary needs. We looked at all 33 quality statements. At our last inspection published on 22 May 2023, the service was requires improvement overall, with breaches in 7 areas, person centred care, need for consent, safe care and treatment, safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment, good governance, fit and proper persons employed and staffing. The service had improved and was no longer in breach of regulations. We found no evidence to suggest people’s dietary needs were not being supported properly. After feedback the provider made some further improvements which needed to be embedded. People received safe, person centred care. People’s rights were upheld. Systems were in place to manage risk. Some updates were required which were addressed by the provider. There was a safeguarding system in place. There was enough suitably recruited staff on duty. Medicines were generally managed well, and some updates were addressed immediately to further enhance processes. Governance systems were in place and the registered manager planned to enhance the medicines audit in light of our feedback. The service was comfortable and tidy. The provider had not always detected and controlled potential infection risks, this was addressed during the inspection and further work was ongoing with support from the local infection control team. There was a good selection of activities taking place. We found a small number of records which needed to be updated, but the provider assured us this was to be immediately addressed. Staff worked well with other healthcare professionals.
