Our view of the service

Abbeyfield Loughborough is a care home specialising in dementia care. The premises consist of Westfield House, the original part of the home, along with Ingleside House, a new three-storey home. The two parts of the premises are joined by a link corridor and communal garden area. The service provides accommodation and personal care for up to 64 people. At the time of the assessment, the service was providing care to 44 people. We carried out this assessment between 13 February 2024 and 22 March 2024. We looked at the following areas as part of the assessment, safe and effective staffing, involving people to manage risks, safeguarding, learning culture, capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders, freedom to speak up and governance, management and sustainability. The provider had demonstrated their commitment to continuing to make improvements within the service and allocated sufficient resources. We found previous breaches in regulations relating to managing safeguarding and ensuring there were enough staff present to meet peoples needs in a timely way had been met. However, many of the improvements had not yet been embedded into working practice. There were continued breaches in ensuring people consented to treatment, that people always received safe care and treatment and there was good governance and oversight of the quality of care provided. Although we found some good practice and improvement at this assessment, until we have assessed more quality statements in safe and well-led, the rating for this service remains the same.

People's experience of this service

People told us they liked living at Abbeyfield Loughborough, and spoke positively about staff members. Relative feedback was good, and the new registered manager was praised.
