We found there were suitable arrangements in place for obtaining, and acting in accordance with, the consent of people who lived at Waterloo House in relation to the care and treatment provided.

We saw the home was clean and welcoming. People who lived at the home were happy to assist with domestic tasks and took an active part in maintaining their home. The management operated effective systems which ensured appropriate standards of cleanliness and hygiene were adhered to.

Medications were managed safely and staff ensured people received their medication in a timely way and as per their prescriptions.

Records were consistently maintained and reflected the most up to date information regarding people's care needs.

During our inspection we found people's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care. People's privacy, dignity and independence were respected. We also found people's needs were assessed prior to moving into Waterloo House and on a regular basis once they were living there.

We found care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with peoples individual care and support plans.

We found that suitable safeguarding policies and procedures were in place. All staff had received safeguarding training. People who used the service felt safe and supported.

We were told that staff felt supported and there was always access to training. Staff told us there was 'good team work 'and that they [care workers] 'all help each other out'.

We saw that Mencap had a robust and effective system to assess and monitor the quality of the service provided.
