We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. This assessment was undertaken to assess an age related rating of this service. At this assessment we looked at 7 quality statements. Under the key question of Safe we looked at Safeguarding people, management of risk and safe and effective staffing. Under the key question of Effective we looked at assessing people’s needs and consent to care and treatment. Under the key question of Caring we looked at supporting people with independence, choice and control. Under the key question of Responsive we looked at Equity in experience and outcomes. Under all these areas of care we found people were being well supported. The safeguarding processes in place protected people from harm and staff had the knowledge and skills to support the people they cared for. The risks to people’s safety were managed effectively and people were supported to maintain as much independence as possible. Staff were recruited safely and there was enough appropriately trained staff in place. People’s needs were assessed and relatives engaged in their family members care. People who lack capacity to make their own decisions were supported using the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Staff knew people well and supported them in a person centred way, working to ensure they lived a full and active life.
