Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 21 January to 4 February 2025.
The service is a care at home service providing support to older people, including people with mental health conditions and physical disabilities. At the time of assessment, there were 15 people receiving a regulated activity. This was the first rated inspection of the service.
Staff spoke positively about working at the service and the people they cared for. People received effective care that met their needs. Detailed records provided guidance to ensure people received safe, person-centred care. Risks to people had been assessed and care plans were in place to help mitigate risks as far as possible. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when people moved services or attended appointments. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Information was accessible to involve people in decision making about their lives
Staff ensured people understood their care and support to enable them to give informed consent. People were treated with kindness and respect. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. People were protected and kept safe. Processes were in place to assess risks associated with people’s care and their home environment. There were enough staff with the necessary skills, qualifications and experience. Rosters were well-managed, so people received consistent care from staff they knew. Staff managed medicines well and involved people in planning any changes. Effective systems were in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service. The service had a good learning culture. The registered manager investigated incidents thoroughly and people could raise concerns. The registered manager was visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff and leaders demonstrated a listening culture and were open to learning and improvements.
People's experience of this service
We received very positive comments from people, relatives, professionals and staff. Relatives and people told us staff were kind and caring, they were patient and treated people as individuals. A relative commented, “Staff are very kind and caring, I cannot praise them enough. [Name]’s safety is paramount with them” and “I have high praise for the very kind and caring people in this company. They are the most loving and caring people in the whole world. They were recommended, and I would recommend them to anyone.” People and relatives told us they received a safe and consistent level of care and support from staff they knew. Their comments included, “They [staff] never miss a call, I always know who is coming, although it is usually the same one anyway. The office would let me know if that changes” and “Staff are well trained and always willing to do extra help if needed.” People and relatives described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was done sensitively, preserving people’s privacy and dignity. “Staff are excellent, I am well looked after. I feel safe in their care” and “[Name] is very happy with the care they receive. [Name] feels safe and well looked after. They trust the carers and chat with them.” Relatives, people and staff were positive about the open culture of the service, they all said they were listened to, had opportunities to give feedback and any concerns were addressed. A person told us, “I have no complaints or concerns, if I did, I would speak to the carer or manager” and “The manager is very approachable and the office staff helpful. They do follow up on our satisfaction with their service which is positive.”
