During a routine inspection
We also met and talked with a consultant ophthalmic surgeon, the optometrist, the intraocular lens surgery manager, and a member of the nursing team. We asked staff about training and development, and how they were supported in their roles.
We carried out a review of infection control, and inspected the clinic throughout. We looked at patient notes, at policies and procedures around laser surgery, and looked at audit and clinical governance arrangements.
People that we met and talked with were attending for assessment, treatment, or follow-up of intraocular lens surgery. Intraocular lens surgery was a procedure available to appropriate people who were not otherwise suitable for laser eye surgery. The process involved the insertion of a lens into the eye which was designed to be worn permanently.
People told us that they had found the service "professional" and "impressive". People said that they had "not been rushed into making a decision" and "all the options were explored." We were told that staff were "absolutely excellent" and "made me feel that I was in safe hands."
People also said that staff had made it clear what they could expect from the procedure. People that we talked with who had completed their treatment said "the results were just as I had hoped" and "they more than met my expectations."
