We assessed 2 quality statements within the responsive key question. People were involved at all times to ensure their outcomes were identified and their voices heard. These included activities, one to one support, developing friendships and maintaining contact with relatives and friends. There was a culture that allowed people to voice their views and opinions. They felt safe to do so. People were involved in care planning and organising their own activities and support.

Care provision, Integration and continuity

People benefited from a staff team who knew them well, understood their care and support needs and knew where to seek additional support if required. A relative told us, “They {staff} are learning what makes him tick.”

Feedback from external professionals was positive. For example, one health professional told us, “The general atmosphere is calm. Staff appear generally contented and to enjoy interacting with the clients. I do not have any ongoing concerns in relation to the work I have been doing.”

People had up to date, individual, person-centred support plans which reflected up to date practice guidance. These were updated to reflect any changes to people’s needs. Support plans included information about people’s health and care needs as well as their life histories, languages spoken and what was important to them from a religious or cultural perspective. There was frequent involvement with external health and care professionals.

Staff told us they knew people well and had developed good relationships with them. Staff had access to up-to-date information to support them in understanding people's care needs and wishes.

Equity in experiences and outcomes

Staff told us, “We extend experiences for and with people.” Staff wanted to make sure that people are not disadvantaged by their health and/or communication needs. It was important to them that everyone at Beachview was equal and had the opportunity to the same or similar experiences. Reasonable adjustments were made to ensure people could access different activities throughout the day.

People were supported in their healthcare needs. For example, a family member told us, “[Person’s name] goes out to enjoy everyday things even with all the complex equipment they need to take with them.”

Staff were all trained and understood the importance of Equality of care and everyone's entitlement to human rights. Care plans ensured there was opportunities to review and monitor individual outcomes. Barriers were clearly identified and ways to overcome them explored and documented.
