During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit no patients were available for us to talk to. However, we reviewed the systems used by the provider to capture feedback from patients. This included patient surveys, thank you cards and a comments book.

People had commented “Amazing, fantastic service all the way”, “Excellent service from first enquiry to the surgery and especially the after care. I would recommend it” and “Lovely, friendly staff. Doctor was very patient with me as I am very nervous, but he put me at ease. I have recommended the clinic to three friends.”

We found that people who used the service were given enough information to make an informed decision about undergoing laser eye treatment. People were also given advice and time to consider their options before making the decision about surgery.

Infection control systems within the service were looked at. These were audited regularly by the manager and appropriate action taken if necessary to improve the service.

We saw there was a complaints system in place, with information and complaints forms readily available to people who used the service. Optimax responded to any complaints received within the timescales of its policies and procedures.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with people who were visiting the clinic for laser surgery, and for consultation following surgery. People spoke positively about their experience of laser surgery. People explained to us that they felt their privacy and dignity was upheld at the Hull clinic, and that confidentiality was maintained. People felt they had not been put under any pressure to sign consent documents to have laser surgery.

A person who had received treatment said, 'The overall experience is very good, and recommended. They also gave me a couple of phone numbers to use if I had questions.'

People we spoke with said to us that they felt safe being treated by the Hull clinic. People we spoke with were positive about the Hull clinic staff. One person said, 'Staff have been very reassuring ' I am really impressed with them here.' Another person said, 'Staff have been very good. I think they have been very professional.'

We spoke with people about the surveys they completed. One person said, 'Completing the questionnaire is a bit long' Another person told us, 'I completed a survey and a second survey. The initial questionnaire included health. I think they are fantastic ' I can't stop being enthusiastic'
