Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

People and staff told us the service treated people as individuals and met their individual needs. Comments from people and relatives included, "At first the carers came for 30 minutes and the carers said it was a real rush to do what they needed to. They mentioned this to myself and the manager so she came and worked as a carer and she was in agreement that an extra 15 minutes would make a difference and we can’t believe how much better it is for mum. That to me is looking at my [relative] as an individual and taking [their] needs into account."

Staff were passionate about the care they provided and gave us examples of how they supported people in a kind and person centred way.

The service ensured people were respected and treated as individuals. Their care was assessed and planned with their involvement and in line with their requirements and preferences.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

People told us care received promoted their independence.

Staff gave us examples of how they encouraged people to be independent.

Peoples needs were assessed before commencement of care delivery to ensure people's preferences were assessed and a care plan created around these. In our review of care records, feedback from people, staff and management team, we found people's independence was promoted and choices respected. A relative told us their loved one required support with bowel management but wanted to remain some of their independence by using the commode. This relative gave us examples of how staff provided extra unscheduled visits to support this person in maintaining their independence and dignity in this area of their life.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

Staff told us they enjoyed working for Little Angels home care and felt well supported by the nominated individual. A staff member told us, "I love it (working here]. We have a good boss, my rotas are done efficiently" and service is caring. Another staff member said, "I loved it [here], I find it amazing. You can work with amazing clients and staff."

There was a supervision policy in place but we found this was not always being followed. In our review of staff files, we found a lack of evidence of staff being regularly offered or supported with a one to one supervision meeting. The nominated individual gave us examples of how they regularly supported and observed staff during their daily delivery of care with staff, or in informal conversations in the office.
