Caring
People enjoyed playing tricks and jokes on the staff team and there were no fixed schedules or routines that limited people’s freedoms. Staff valued people’s interests and took pleasure in supporting people to engage with activities they enjoyed.

Independence, choice and control
People chose what to do while staying in Lowena and there were no fixed schedules of activities. A range of communal spaces were available where people could; watch TV, play video games, pool or table football, engage in craft activities or board games.
Staff enjoyed the variability in their roles as a result of people’s different likes and interests. During both of our inspection visits people enjoyed playing tricks and jokes on their support staff and the inspector.
Meals were prepared in accordance with people’s known preferences and staff told us, “We generally know who is coming in and what they like so that’s what we cook.” People chose where to eat each meal and on our first visit we noted, people chose to eat in separate spaces as they were enjoying different activities.
