People were happy living at Eve Belle. People told us they had very nice accommodation, the staff were kind and they got treated with respect. Details of people’s protected characteristics including ethnicity, culture, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation were recorded to ensure there were no barriers to providing the right care and support for them. Everyone had access to appropriate health and social care professionals and advice and support was organised in a timely way. A person told us, “I feel they treat me well. I can talk to them if I want to. I like to have a beer especially sitting outside, it’s a pleasure of mine.” We saw people being treated equally, for example everyone had the opportunity to visit the hairdresser who was there on the day of the assessment. We saw the joy people felt after their hairdressing experience. Social activities and events were adapted to meet the needs of everyone to ensure they could join in regardless of their abilities, such as the morning exercise class. Staff were attentive and aware of people's needs and no one was left out. We saw people seated next to others to either watch activities, join in the conversations, or have a non-alcoholic wine or beer from the bar.

Staff understood the barriers people and their colleagues might face in their daily lives such as bullying, harassment or discrimination. This also included people’s attitudes and assumptions about disability and especially dementia. A staff member said, “We want people to experience different things, so their lives are as full as possible. We don’t let barriers get in the way of people doing what they want to do.” Specific events such as cultural days were held to understand different cultures, food and religions.

Staff had received equality and diversity training. Care records we reviewed for people demonstrated they were able to access services when required and they were supported by staff and relatives to do so. There were clear processes in place for staff and management to follow the provider’s vision, values, and behaviours and these were demonstrated on the day of our assessment.
