The Roses is a residential care home providing personal care to 28 people aged 65 and over at the time of the inspection. The service can support up to 28 people. The assessment was completed between 1 July 2024 and 27 August 2024. A site visit to gather people’s experiences and observe care practices was carried out on 14 August 2024.

People's experience of the service

People said they felt safe with staff and were happy with the support provided by them. People’s care, treatment and support promoted equality, removed barriers or delays, and protected their rights. People’s individual risks were identified, and risk assessment reviews were carried out to keep people safe. The service was working within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) and if needed appropriate legal authorisations were requested when depriving a person of their liberty in their best interests. Medicines were safely managed on people’s behalf. The provider undertook regular health and safety checks of the premises to ensure people lived freely within a safe environment. Effective infection control measures were in place. People were supported to have choice and control over their own care and to make decisions about their care, treatment, and wellbeing. There were enough staff deployed to meet peoples’ needs. There were safe and effective recruitment processes in place. Staff were well trained and competent in their roles. People said staff were kind, compassionate, caring and visible around the home, which we saw during our site visit. People felt valued by staff who showed genuine interest in their well-being and quality of life. Care was personalised and staff worked to deliver person-centred care which maintained people’s dignity with understanding. People were supported to have a peaceful, comfortable, and dignified end of life care in line with national best practice guidance. People were supported to see appropriate health and social care professionals to meet their healthcare needs. Staff felt respected, supported, and valued by the registered manager which created a positive and improvement-driven culture. There were clear and effective governance, management and accountability arrangements in place and staff understood their role and responsibilities.
