People were supported in a person centred way. People’s wishes and preferences were assessed, documented and respected. Staff approached people respectfully and communicated clearly. People and those important to them were involved in planning and reviewing care. This assessment did not cover all parts of our Single Assessment Framework, therefore we have only updated scores and ratings for those areas which we have assessed which means at this visit we use the ratings from the previous inspection to rate the key questions.

This service scored 50 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Person-centred Care

Score: 3

People told us staff treated them with dignity and treated them as individuals. A relative we spoke with said, “We are very comfortable with the care for [relative], staff have good knowledge of their needs and respected their privacy, they do not push anything on them.” People we spoke with told us, staff knew them well and supported them to live their lives in their chosen way. A person we spoke with told us; staff supported them with their religious needs.

Staff responded to people’s needs well. Staff knew people’s strengths and limitations and ensured they delivered care and support in a person-centred way. Staff told us, “I know people so I can prioritise to make sure people get what they need at the right time.” The manager told us they completed resident of the day to ensure people’s full needs were holistically reviewed. An audit of resident of the day recognised the importance of this to ensure people consistently received person centred care, feedback from the audit was shared with staff to ensure these were consistently completed. Care plans were detailed and demonstrated staff sought out to ensure people’s whole self were reflected in their care plans. Care plans reflected peoples’ individual needs, life history and people and subjects of significant importance.

During the inspection we observed staff to treat people kindly and as individuals. We observed staff to use people’s names and ensure consent was gained before supporting them. People were offered choice in how they wished to spend their time.
