People told us they were encouraged to be more independent and felt comfortable living in the home. They told us they all enjoyed living there and felt that staff respected them. One person said "I can come and go as I like" and 'I get on well with everyone'.

We spoke with three care workers. One person told us how they tried to encourage people to become more independent in tasks such as personal hygiene and cooking. Another person said "we always respect people's wishes and try to ensure their privacy when supporting them".

People that we spoke with told us they had seen their care plans and had written in them. One person told us "my support worker helped me with my care plan". People were happy with the way they were treated by staff; one person said "staff treat me well". We looked at three care plans, these were person centred. We spoke with care workers about people's care plans. One care worker told us "we read people's care plans to find out their needs". Another care worker said "people contribute to their care plans".

People told us they felt safe living at the home. One person told us "I would call someone if I wasn't treated well". Another person said "care workers are nice to me".

People that we spoke with said there were enough staff on duty at the home. On the day of our visit, three people were at the home and five people had gone out. There were four members of staff on duty during our visit, including the manager.

People told us that they are happy and settled living at Westleigh Avenue. They said that they got on well with each other and with the staff. We met a relative who said that they liked the home as well.

People said that they have known some of the staff members for a long time as the team is settled and there is little staff turnover.

The care provided at the service is person centred and reflects the range of people's needs. Representatives of local authorities we contacted said that they are satisfied with the service provided at Westleigh Avenue.
