Requires improvement

Updated 11 November 2024

Hazelgrove Court Care Home is a care home providing accomodation, personal and nursing care for older adults, younger adults and people living with a dementia. It is registered to accommodate up to 48 people. At the time of the assessment there were 46 people resident at the home.

Dates of assessment 3 December 2024 to 7 February 2025. At the last inspection in May 2023, we rated the service requires improvement and found a breach of regulation relating to the governance and oversight of infection prevention and control (IPC) processes. This assessment was undertaken to follow up on those breaches.

At this inspection we found the service had made some improvements in relation to infection prevention and control and the breach was now met. The service continues to be rated requires improvement in safe and well-led. We found a breach of regulation relating to the oversight and governance of medicines and associated care records. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

Staff knew people well and worked with them to provide the care and support they needed. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. Staff deployment concerns were being addressed by the current home manager who was embedding a whole home approach. A new quality assurance system was rolled out during the assessment with the aim of providing improved oversight, however, this was yet to be embedded, and its effectiveness evaluated.

People's experience of the service

Updated 11 November 2024

People were complimentary of the care and support they received. We were told care staff were friendly and caring. People, and their relatives, commented on how risks were managed and said they felt included and safe. One person did share some concerns with us which we shared with the management team, who spoke with the person, and took immediate action to investigate the issues. Overall, people felt there were enough staff, who engaged well and responded quickly when needed. People, and relatives said they knew who the current management team were, particularly the deputy manager, saying, “I know the deputy manager” and “She is always around!”
