Requires improvement

Updated 17 February 2025

Date of assessment: This assessment was carried out between14 January to 24 January 2025. This assessment was triggered after receiving information of concern in relation to governance and management. Beaconville Nursing Home is a nursing home that provides accommodation for persons who require nursing and personal care for up to 36 people, at the time of our assessment, there were 27 people living at the service. The service specialises in providing care to adults over 65 years with dementia and/or Mental health conditions.

At our last assessment, we rated the service requires improvement. Although we found improvements at this assessment to include regular supervision for staff and supporting people to move regularly, we continue to rate the service requires improvement. At this assessment, we reviewed the breaches identified at our last inspection in December 2023. We found there were continued breaches of regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, consent to care and treatment and good governance. We also identified additional breaches in relation to staffing and fit and proper persons (recruitment).

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 17 February 2025

People and those important to them were positive about the quality of care.

Most people living in the service were unable to verbally feedback their experience of the service to us. We spoke with 4 healthcare professionals and 5 relatives to help assess and understand how people’s care needs were being met.

Relatives we spoke with were positive about the service and were aware of the recent changes within the management team. One relative told us, “I know (Manager’s name) is the manager, (they) used to be the deputy. I’m so grateful for what they do and appreciate every single one of the staff there. I didn’t realise until you asked me this question, and I’m getting a bit teary now, how much I appreciate them all for what they do for (Person’s name) and me.” Another relative in relation to the question, ‘do staff know how to care for people’, told us “To be truthful I spend many hours at Beaconville, and I’m impressed with how they treat others and all the personalities. They go above and beyond.”

We used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us. Observations showed at times people using the service were sometimes withdrawn, this could link with people’s dementia, time of day and lack of engaging interactions. However, staff were kind and patient in their redirection of people who were very driven in relation to their dementia and there was enough staff.
