During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit the agency was supporting approximately 140 people across the borough of Rochdale. The people we spoke with who used the service described staff as 'delightful', 'fantastic', 'high quality staff' and 'impeccable'.

People also told us, 'They [the staff] are very encouraging and made me feel comfortable', 'I have confidence in them [the staff]', 'I'm getting back on my feet and making progress', 'I would recommend this service to anyone' and 'We've been very satisfied, the help has been really appreciated'.

We found that some of the records directing staff in the delivery of care and support lacked detail and needed expanding on so that they provided clearer information about the support people required.

Systems were in place with regards to reporting and investigating any complaints and concerns raised with the service. No issues were identified during our inspection.

We also spoke with staff as part of our inspection. They were very complimentary about working for the agency and the support they received. They told us; 'It's a brilliant service', 'There couldn't be a better service', 'The office staff are very supportive' and 'They are always providing us with training updates'.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who received services. One person told us, 'It's an absolutely superb service'. We heard that the person was involved in deciding and agreeing their care. They said 'I'm treated as a human being'. Another person who received a service said they were 'Over the moon' with the service. They told us that the staff were pleasant and they could have a 'chat and laugh' with them. Both people told us that staff treated them dignity and protected their privacy.

One relative told us that they had no problems with the service that they were 'Very helpful' and that the staff were respectful and trained to do their job.

We looked at feedback questionnaires from people who had had services in 2012. One person wrote they 'Felt comfortable with the carers and they do a great job'. Another person wrote 'I really appreciate the service the STARS team provided'.
