Independence, choice and control

Score: 1

Most feedback was negative in this area. Staff did not always have sufficient knowledge of people’s care preferences and needs. People were not always treated with dignity and respect. One relative told us, “The staff are robotic and have no warmth, they are very task oriented.” One relative was very satisfied with the support their family member received. They told us, “The team know (family member) well and I feel it has been a successful care package. (Family member) will tell the staff they love them.”

We were not able to speak with staff. We received some general positive and negative feedback by email. Staff were concerned about losing their sponsorship visa to work in the UK. We also received concerns from 3 staff before the assessment about poor working conditions.

There was no evidence the provider had taken steps to promote people’s independence and ensure they were aware of their rights in relation to their care delivery. People’s care plans did not fully reflect their needs. People were not always involved in decision making about their care and treatment. This meant people were not always in control of planning their care and support. This placed people at risk of receiving care which was not in line with their wishes and may not meet their needs.
