Regency Nursing Home provides accommodation and care for up to 30 older people some of whom are living with dementia. This assessment was completed following concerns received from an external professional about moving and handling practice. We carried out an assessment of the service including site visits on 15 and 23 February 2024. The team included three inspectors and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We spoke with 14 people, 3 visitors and staff including the registered manager, nursing, care and housekeeping teams. We also spoke with a visiting professional. Following the site visit we reviewed a range of documents relating to the running of the service, spoke with the provider and received feedback from a further 3 health or social care professionals. This was the first assessment of this newly registered service. We considered seven quality statements relating to the areas of risk indicated by the concerns we received. This assessment has not provided a rating for the service under the Health and Social Care Act 2008. We identified two breaches of regulation relating to safe care and treatment and good governance. The registered manager and provider were open to feedback and demonstrated a willingness to develop and improve the service. The service was registered in October 2023 and systems and processes were still being developed and embedded.

People's experience of the service

Updated 6 February 2024

People provided mixed feedback about the service. People told us staff were kind. Feedback included, “I do feel staff are kind”, “We can have a good chat with them” and, “They do listen to me.” Some people told us staff appeared rushed and they did not always receive support as quickly as they would have liked. A few people and relatives reported feeling a bother to staff on occasion. People were unaware or had limited knowledge of their care plans. People felt the home was kept clean and the cleaners did a good job. People knew the registered manager and told us they felt able to go to her if they had worries or concerns.
