During an assessment under our new approach

We found the practice had met all regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. St Andrews Dental Practice is located on the first floor of Billericay Health Centre in Billericay, Essex and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step free and lift access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available outside the practice. The practice had 5 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 5 dental nurses including 1 trainee dental nurse, 1 dental hygienist, 2 receptionists and the practice manager.

During a routine inspection

We found that treatment was planned in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. People were cared for in a clean, hygienic environment. There were effective systems in place to ensure that people were protected from the risk of infection.

We spoke with four people who used the service during our inspection. They all told us they were satisfied with the treatment they received at St Andrews Dental Practice. They confirmed that that they were given good information about planned treatments so they could make the right decision for them on how to proceed. One person told us, 'They have been very patient with me. I cannot fault the treatment. Overall I would give it 10 out 10.'

We saw that people were treated in a clean and tidy environment. People that we spoke with told us that they found the surgery clean.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

We found that there was an effective complaints system available.
