During a routine inspection
We spent time observing staff. We found they were very respectful in their approach; all were very polite and friendly with patients. The general atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxed.
The dentist described to us how patients were involved in their treatment. He explained he would discuss the options available during their initial appointment. He told us that in addition to providing leaflets and other written guidance, he used models and a hand mirror to help explain and demonstrate the various treatment options. One person said 'The dentist always explains things to me', another said 'they explain the treatments available'.
We saw the practice had a separate room where all cleaning, sterilising and checking of instruments was carried out. The dental nurse showed a high level of understanding of the process and was able to explain it to us in a very clear way. In these ways the practice demonstrated how they reduced the risk of infection.
