During a routine inspection
With people's permission we observed two consultations. We also looked at dental notes and other records kept by the provider.
People were given appropriate information and support regarding their care and told us they understood the choices available to them. One person commented that the dentist was 'very thorough' in explaining options to them.
People's privacy was respected. Their views and experiences were taken into account in how the service was provided.
People experienced care and treatment that met their needs. Treatment was planned and delivered in line with individual treatment plans, with attention to people's safety and welfare. People told us they were able to obtain prompt emergency treatment, if needed. One person, whose family saw the same dentist, said, 'I always know they're in good hands when they come here'.
The provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent it from happening.
People were protected from the risk of infection. They were cared for in a clean environment.
The provider enabled staff to maintain their skills and knowledge, and supported them to deliver care and treatment safely.
The provider had effective systems to monitor the quality of their service. There were also systems to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people using the service and others.
