Coronation Road Dental Surgery is a dental practice providing private and NHS treatment for both adults and children. The practice is based in Bristol. The practice has six dental treatment rooms, spread over four floors. There is a separate decontamination facility used for cleaning, sterilising and packing dental instruments. The practice ground floor is accessible to wheelchair users, prams and patients with limited mobility. The practice employed nine dentists two of whom were the senior dentists, four hygienists, twelve dental nurses, two trainee dental nurses, four reception staff and a practice manager who was also a registered manager.
The practice’s opening hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 08.30am to 17.45pm. Thursday 08.30 am to 19.00pm and Friday 8.30 to 16.00pm. The surgery is closed between 13.00pm to 14.00pm daily for lunch. There are arrangements to ensure patients receive urgent dental assistance when the practice is closed. This is provided by out of hours cover.
The practice owner is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as an individual. Like registered providers, they are ‘registered persons’. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the practice is run.
Mrs. Deborah Tanner is the registered manager. A registered manager is a person who is registered with the Care Quality Commission to manage the service. Like registered providers, they are ‘registered persons’. Registered persons have legal responsibility for meeting the requirements in the Health and Social Care Act 2008 and associated Regulations about how the practice is run.

There were areas where the provider could make improvements and should:
-
Ensure the practice's recruitment policy and procedures are suitable and the recruitment arrangements are in line with Schedule 3 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 to ensure necessary employment checks are in place for all new staff and the required specified information in respect of persons employed by the practice is held.
-
Review the security arrangements for personnel files.
-
Review the practice's protocols for completion of dental care records giving due regard to guidance provided by the Faculty of General Dental Practice, regarding clinical examinations and record keeping.
-
Develop a high level of audit tool for spot checking system to ensure that the cleaning check list carried out by staff is correctly completed and that staff are following all good practice guidance.
-
Consider fitting a hearing loop for people with hearing difficulties.
