Our view of the service

Bridlington Lodge is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 20 people. At the time of our inspection there were 14 people using the service. We assessed 17 quality statements within 4 key questions. The inspection included site visits on 15 and 22 February 2024. We continued to review evidence off-site after these dates. The assessment was completed in response to concerns we had received about the service. The service was last inspected in May 2023, where we identified breaches of regulation. The provider completed an action plan after the last inspection to show what they would do and by when to improve. At this inspection the provider remained in breach of regulations. We identified 5 breaches relating to the identification and management of risk, medicines management, premises and equipment, recruitment, person-centred care and governance. There was no evidence of continuous learning or systematic approach to improvement. Incidents were not reviewed to identify themes, patterns or for lessons that could be learned. There was not a systematic approach to determining the number of staff required to be deployed to ensure people's needs were met safely. Since December 2023 there had been 3 different managers in post. Staff were, however, positive about the new manager and said they were approachable. Staff were aware of their responsibilities and knew how to raise any concerns they had. We observed staff were patient and attentive to people, and interactions were friendly. People were supported in a timely manner. Feedback from people and their relatives was mixed in terms of the consistency and abilities of staff at the home. In instances where CQC have decided to take enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded. We have also asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
