During a routine inspection
The dentists completed a dental examination and obtained a medical history from each patient. The records of these were held on the practice computer system. Emergency appointments were available when required and people were happy with the way the staff responded to them. Patients felt involved and reassured and had no complaints about the service provided.
We saw that appropriate policies and procedures were in place to safeguard patients from abuse or identify any concerns that this might be occurring to patients elsewhere. Staff had received training on child protection but had yet to attend similar training on safeguarding adults. Policies and procedures on both adult and child protection were present. Staff had received a range of other training relevant to their roles.
The practice had procedures and training in place to address infection control and had identified one person to take the lead on infection control issues. The procedures for equipment decontamination and surgery cleaning were appropriate.
Oaktree Dental Practice had an appropriate complaints procedure and any issues raised had been investigated and resolved.
