During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site, announced assessment on 14 May 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks, and the recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance, and they were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. DHS Dental Practice - Phoenix Centre is in Heywood and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 2 dentists, 2 dental nurses, and 1 practice manager. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 dentist, 1 dental nurse and the practice manager.

During a routine inspection

Patients were asked about the care and treatment provided at the practice. They told us that any treatment was discussed with them. This had been done both verbally and in writing. Patients commented; 'Everything was discussed verbally as well as being given written information', 'There was discussion with the dentist and I got a treatment plan' and 'Yes everything was explained and options given'.

Patients confirmed they were given relevant information about their treatment. They also said that they were given time to consider the treatment options offered to them before making a decision. Patients also confirmed that their consent was sought prior to any treatment taking place.

Patients described staff as 'friendly' and 'respectful'. One person said, 'Overall the staff are attentive and helpful'.

Other comments were made about the hygiene standards at the surgery and practice followed by staff. They confirmed that the surgery was always kept clean and tidy and protective clothing was provided for patients as well as being worn by staff.
