Pinelodge Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation with nursing and/or personal care to people. This was the first assessment carried out under our single assessment framework. We completed this assessment due to concerns received from partner agencies in relation to safe use of equipment, cleanliness of the environment and infection control. The assessment was unannounced, and started on 12 March 2024. It ended on 10 April 2024. We looked at 4 quality statements which included safe environment, involving people to manage risk, infection prevention and control along with governance management and sustainability. At our last rating inspection (report published 30 April 2019), there was a breach of regulation. At this assessment we found improvements had been to the concern previously identified however, governance remained an area where improvements were required, and the provider remains in breach of regulation. Governance and oversight processes were not robust. The registered manager had a series of audits and checks in place which they, and senior members of staff, completed however we identified that there were inaccuracies in the audits and checks completed. There were also inconsistencies between audits and the information within them. People felt they received a good standard of care and liked living at Pinelodge Care Home. They were positive about their experiences. Staff were aware of how to work in accordance with legislation and good practice. They told us the management team gave appropriate support to enable them to work well in their roles. Infection control measures were in place, and staff knew how to reduce risks to people and themselves. Care plans and risk assessments were in place and most included enough detail to be able to support people safely and in their preferred way, however some would benefit from the inclusion of further detail. A plan was in place to introduce an electronic care planning system.
