During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this on-site, announced assessment on 16 September 2024. We found the practice had met regulations. Recruitment procedures reflected current legislation and there was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and infection control procedures were in place. The practice had systems to manage risks. Orthodontic Centre Ecclesall Road is part of Mydentist a dental group provider. The practice is in Sheffield and provides private orthodontic dental care for adults and children. There was step free access to the practice and car parking spaces were available near the practice. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 1 orthodontist, 1 orthodontic therapist, 2 dental nurses, 2 receptionists, the practice manager and the group regional regulatory officer.

During a routine inspection

People who attended this centre were referred by their own dentist for treatment. Most people who used this service were usually from the age of 11 to 18 and treated via the NHS although people could also self fund. People over 18 could also be treated as private patients.

People we spoke with told us that they felt they were respected, were involved in their treatment and kept informed. Comments included " they always tell me what the next step is and what will be happening' and 'they explain things to me all the time so I understand what is happening.'

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that ensured people's safety and welfare. People we spoke with signed consent forms prior to receiving any treatment. All people told us they were pleased with the service.

Our observations and our review of records demonstrated that people received care and treatment in a clean environment with measures in place to minimise the risk of infection. People told us they felt that the clinic was clean and hygienic. One person said 'everywhere is spotless.'

The provider had a satisfactory recruitment and selection procedure in place to ensure that staff were appropriately employed.

We found that there were effective systems to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people received.
