Nuffield Health Reading Fitness and Wellbeing Centre is registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide the regulated activities; Diagnostic and screening; and treatment of disease, disorder and injury.
Nuffield Health Reading Fitness and Wellbeing Centre provide health assessments to adults that include a range of testing and screening processes carried out by a physiologist and a doctor. Following the assessment and screening process clients undergo a consultation with a doctor to discuss the findings of the results and any recommended lifestyle changes or treatment planning. Clients can also access physiotherapy at the clinic, but this part of the service was not inspected as part of this inspection.
Health assessments are delivered in a purpose built clinic located within the health and wellbeing centre. There are currently three doctors, three physiologists (one of the physiologists is also the clinic manager) and one physiotherapist who work at the centre. The general manager and reception staff are shared with the fitness centre. Reception staff therefore, have a limited role in provision of regulated activities. Clients can choose to see a female or male staff member when booking in for health assessments and physiotherapy. In addition, clients can choose to be seen at one of the other nearby or wider health and wellbeing centres in the UK.
Health assessments are categorised and promoted as:
- A lifestyle health assessment, for clients wanting to reduce health risks.
- A female assessment, for all aspects of female health (including cervical cytology testing).
- A 360 health assessment which includes a review of diabetes and heart health risks.
- A 360+ health assessment which focussed on cardiovascular health.
- PATH (Personalised Assessment for Tailored Health ) assessments that provides tailored health assessments based on an individual’s client risk factors. These are calculated using a Trium Health risk analysis. The physiologist modules offered include posture and back health, energy and sleep, stress and resilience, lifestyle management of healthy hearts, diabetes prevention, healthy weight loss, fitness and physical measurements and doctor modules include general health and blood checks, bone health, sexual function and bowel cancer screen and alcohol review.
How we inspected this service
We asked the local Healthwatch and clinical commissioning group (CCG) for information. The provider sent us information prior to the inspection and we asked clients for their views of the service by providing CQC comment cards in advance of the inspection.
To get to the heart of clients’ experiences of care and treatment, we always ask the following five questions:
- Is it safe?
- Is it effective?
- Is it caring?
- Is it responsive to people’s needs?
- Is it well-led?
These questions therefore, formed the framework for the areas we looked at during the inspection.
