During a routine inspection

During this visit we spoke with three relatives of people who used the service, four staff members and looked at five people's care records. The service had nine members of staff who provided personal care to two adults and six children. Due to the complex nature of people's needs, it was not possible for us to speak directly with people who used the service.

We found that people's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care. One relative told us, 'I work with them to do the support plan for my son. I am fully involved as I need to be part of this and I am.' Another relative said, 'I feel involved in my daughters care. I am involved in reviews and the staff listen to what I want.'

Relatives we spoke with told us they were happy with the service their relative received and how staff cared for them. One relative said, 'My son is more than happy. He is delighted and gets very excited when they come.' Another relative told us, 'They provide excellent care. I am very happy with the service.'

People were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

There was an effective complaints system available.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with seven relatives and representatives of people who used the service about the support provided by the agency. Everyone we spoke with told us they were completely satisfied with the care and support received. One person was in negotiations with the agency about changing aspects of their care package but told us they were in the process of resolving matters.

Relatives described staff in positive terms. One person said; "The carer worker who visits us is a lovely lass, she gets on really well with my sister." Another person said, about the care worker, "She is very caring, she thinks about my daughter's feelings in everything she does." One person told us that they had built up a 'good relationship' with with their care worker and 'felt very comfortable in her company.'

We saw records that showed people who used the service and their relatives were involved in developing their care plans.

Four relatives told us that if they had a complaint they would contact the care co-ordinator, whom they knew by name, or the manager and they were confident it would be dealt with properly.

We looked at people's care records. We found records were accurate, up to date and regularly reviewed. We looked at staff records and found staff were well trained and recruited properly to make sure they were suitable to work with either children or vulnerable people. We also saw there were good systems in place to ensure staff were well supported in their work.
