During a routine inspection
Two dentists explained to us how they assess the risk of disease amongst patients and this information was used to help to determine the most suitable interval for check up appointments.
We saw that there was a clear system in place which ensured that instruments were transferred, decontaminated, examined, sterilised and stored consistently. This shows that people were protected from the risk of infection because appropriate guidance had been followed.
We were told that staff appraisals were carried out annually and this was combined with a discussion about individual personal development plans for further training.
We saw that all patients records were securely filed and that patients computer records were password protected.
