During a routine inspection
One patient told us:"There's nothing wrong with the practice, they do a good job and the surgery is always clean." Another patient said "The waiting area is a little clinical but then again I don't come here for a social visit."
The staff we spoke with told us the practice was being moved to another provider. They said: "The proposed move has delayed some planned improvements to the practice and maintenance repairs are late happening."
We found patients were involved in their treatment plans and were offered choices with costs explained to them. One patient told us the dentist had talked about different types of dentures they could have and listened to their wishes. We confirmed this when we looked at the treatment plans on the patient's computer notes.
We found the practice met Department of Health guidelines with the layout of their de-contamination room. There were clearly defined clean and dirty areas with a natural progression from one to the other. The nurse followed good hygiene practice when cleaning used instruments.
Staff told us they received training updates which were mainly on-line and updated their continuous professional development. The practice followed a complaints system and worked to resolve concerns.
