Our view of the service
We carried out this on-site unannounced assessment on 28 June 2024. We found the practice had not met all regulations. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and they were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. However, the practice had ineffective systems to manage risks. Recruitment procedures did not reflect current legislation and infection control procedures did not follow published guidance. Medicines and prescriptions were not managed in line with current guidance. There was ineffective leadership, and the practice did not demonstrate a culture which promoted continuous improvement. The practice is in Ealing in the London borough of Ealing and provides private dental care and treatment for adults and some children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 1 dentist, 1 trainee dental nurse, 1 lead dental nurse who also worked as a receptionist, 1 dental hygienist, 1 practice manager and 1 part time receptionist. The practice had 2 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the principal dentist, the trainee dental nurse, a covering nurse, the dental hygienist, and the receptionist/lead dental nurse. The provider was not complying with 3 regulations. Full details of the regulations the provider was not meeting are within the quality statement section of the report. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
During our assessment, we saw patient feedback from 5 patients. Their responses and additional patient feedback we reviewed provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken. Staff gathered feedback from patients and demonstrated a commitment to acting on feedback. Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
