Westbury Lodge is a registered care home providing the regulated activity of accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care to people. At the time of our assessment there were 8 people using the service. Assessment activity started on 6 June 2024 and finished on 2 November 2024. We visited the home on 6 and 7 June 2024. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance the Care Quality Commission (CQC) follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. During this assessment we observed enough staff to support people’s needs and we saw that work was being completed around team culture. However, feedback we received from staff showed this required further focus from the provider. People’s medication records noted people’s needs. However, there were areas of these records that required improvements. People we spoke with told us they liked living at the service. During this assessment the provider told us the registered manager had left the service. The provider told us a temporary manager was in place whilst they found a new manager.

We spoke with relatives who told us they were happy with the support provided. For example, one relative told us “they [staff] are very attentive, very caring. They are so kind to [person]”. Another told us “They [staff] are very welcoming.” Relatives felt that people were happy at the service. For example we were told “[person] appears to be happy there. [person] has lots of things to keep [person] entertained.” Relatives told us that the manager was approachable, they said, “I can talk to the new manager and the deputy.”
