Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 8 February 2024

Date of Assessment: 13 August to 9 September 2024. The service provides support to people who are transitioning from hospital into the community. The service can provide provide support for up to 6 adults aged 18+ living with an eating disorder.

At our last inspection published on 6 February 2023 we rated safe and well led requires improvement. At this inspection we found improvements had been made in medicines management and leaders had better oversight to ensure a safer service. The service no longer provided supported living services nor provided services to people with a learning disability and autistic people.

The provider had a learning culture and people could raise concerns.

Medicines were stored safely and securely, and medicines risk assessments were in place. The service should ensure the impact of current medicines when completing falls risk assessments.

Managers investigated incidents. People were protected and kept safe. Staff understood and managed risks. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain quality care. Staff were positive about their supported employment.

Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. People with protected characteristics felt supported. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. There was a culture of continuous improvement. The service should routinely seek feedback from people and overtly demonstrate changes made as a result of that feedback.

People's experience of the service

Updated 8 February 2024

People were positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and were involved in planning their support and understood their rights. People said they received quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. One person said, “The staff are lovely.” We saw that the service provided interesting activities to keep people physically and mentally active. Such as gardening, arts and crafts, trips out and about and volunteering opportunities in the local community.

People were able to complete their own laundry. A regular meeting was held with people at the service to discuss the running of The Whitehouse and any improvement suggestions. However, there was limited evidence how residents had influenced service improvement.
