Requires improvement

Updated 25 July 2024

Nazareth House - East Finchley is a registered care home that provides personal care to people, some of whom may be living with dementia. The home is registered to accommodate 84 people. At the time of our on site assessment 83 people were being supported in the home. The last rating for the service was requires improvement, (published 13 January 2023) and there was a breach of regulation. The provider completed an action plan to show what they would do and by when to improve. We carried out our on-site assessment on 9 October 2024 which was attended by 1 Inspector, a Nursing Specialist and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. Off site assessment activity started on 2 October 2024 and ended on 17 October 2024. We looked at 3 key questions; Safe, Responsive and Well-Led. We covered a range of quality statements including; Safe and effective staffing, Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Medicines optimisation; Care provision, Integration and continuity; Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders and Governance, management and sustainability. The provider’s systems and processes to manage people's medicines were not always effective. People's care records were not always kept up to date. The provider’s quality assurance audits and checks had failed to identify these issues. We have identified breaches of regulation in relation to safe care and treatment and good governance. We requested an action plan from the provider. Staff were trained and understood most people’s needs so they could provide care to them. The management team was committed to driving continuous improvements in the service and to address the shortfalls we found during our assessment.
