During a themed inspection looking at Offender Healthcare
The layout of the prison, security issues and the separation of the various healthcare departments constrained the delivery of the healthcare service. The provider had made adjustments and raised these issues with the prison that was responsible for facilities provision. Some healthcare facilities were delivered in clean and modern environments. However, some healthcare rooms were not compliant with infection control requirements. Staff did not always work in a way that protected people from the risks of infection.
The provider had policies and procedures in place to ensure that safe management of medicines. However, medicines were not always managed safely. Nor in a way that ensured that people received their medicines appropriately.
Effective governance arrangements were in place supported by systems that ensured that the quality of the healthcare service was regularly monitored. People were routinely asked about their views of the service and their feedback was acted upon.
