People were well treated by kind, caring and respectful staff. People had good relationships with staff. People were supported to make choices and be independent when they wanted this. Staff felt supported by the provider and each other. They had opportunities to learn and develop their skills. We did not assess all the quality statements within this key question. We did not identify concerns relating to these areas which we judged as being met at our last inspection.
This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
Kindness, compassion and dignity
People were treated with kindness, compassion and dignity. Comments from people and their relatives included, ‘’The carers are like part of our family and support me really well’’, ‘’They are very respectful, giving [person] dignity and privacy’’, ‘’They are kind, caring and very good’’ and ‘’They are really lovely.’’ The staff worked closely with people. They supported the same people and got to know them well. One member of staff told us, ‘’This has allowed me to build strong relationships and truly understand their individual needs, preferences and routines.’’
Treating people as individuals
We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.
Independence, choice and control
People were supported to make choices and be in control of their care. They were also supported to be independent and do things for themselves when they were able. Comments from people and their relatives included, ‘’[Person] makes [their] own decisions and choices and is supported to keep a little independence’’ and ‘’I am as independent as I can be and the carers support and encourage me in this.’’ People’s care plans were personalised and showed how people communicated and made decisions. When people needed extra care or specific techniques to understand information, this was recorded so that the staff knew what to do and how to provide the right support.
Responding to people’s immediate needs
We did not look at Responding to people’s immediate needs during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
Staff were supported with their wellbeing. They told us they were happy working with the service and felt supported by the management team and each other. Their comments included, ‘’I have regular opportunities to discuss my work and any concerns. I can approach managers anytime if I need support or guidance, they are always open to listening and offer advice and solutions’’ and ‘’The team are very supportive, the managers are approachable, and the work environment is positive.’’ The managers had regular meetings with staff individually and as a team. They discussed the service as well as staff needs. There were opportunities for staff to request additional training or support if they wanted. The staff also told us there were opportunities for professional development with one member of staff commenting, ‘’It is a great place for career growth.’’
