Liberham Lodge is a nursing home providing care to adults with physical and health related support needs, some of whom live with dementia. The assessment was completed between 18 January and 17 March 2024. An unannounced site visits to the home were carried out on 18 January and 17 March 2024. We reviewed all quality statements as part of this assessment. The service was rated good. Staff provided safe care which was exceptionally person-centred and supported people’s quality of life, choice and independence. This brought good outcomes to people, both health wise and around their general wellbeing. People had access to various healthcare and social care services and felt valued members of their local community. The management team, especially the registered manager of the service, were recognised as hands-on, approachable and inclusive leaders with strong person-centred values. Equality and diversity were promoted in the service. The provider had robust policies, procedures and governance systems which were effectively used in the service to drive continuous improvement.

People's experience of the service

People and their relatives were very positive about the home and the care they were receiving. People told us, “I definitely get good care here.”; “[Staff] are gorgeous and very friendly. I have found people (staff) to be very caring. I have nothing to complain about.”; “[Staff] will be there to help me as soon as I ask.” Relatives told us, “The home is very safe from the environment to how the staff carry themselves and do their job .”; “Well-staffed and monitored friendly reception. Call buttons regularly checked. Staff very aware and responsive.” People told us they were asked for their choices and staff respected their decisions. One person told us when asked if staff sought their consent for care, “Always, staff are very respectful like that.” A relative told us about the registered manager, “He has always got time for a chat or concerns. He is very friendly, and he will go and chat with the residents.” Other relatives told us, “[Staff] also treat [person] as an equal, not someone who has dementia and don’t talk down to her.”; “There is a happy, relaxed atmosphere. The activities team are cheerful and inclusive of all needs.” People and their relatives told us the care provided was exceptionally person-centred and effective; “[Staff] tend to her physical and emotional needs. She is calm, and much less anxious than she was when in her own home.”; “Excellent care. The management and staff go the extra mile to help residents settle in and accommodate individual wants and needs.” A relative said about how care is provided, “Unbelievably well, they have helped him get better further than our wildest dreams.”
