During a routine inspection
The practice had a robust decontamination area protocol. Staff were able to describe the decontamination process to us, explaining the dirty to clean workflow which they adhered to within two designated decontamination areas. Decontamination equipment was maintained and tested by service engineers and operator checks were being carried out to the frequency recommended in the Department of Health guidelines. This ensured that patients were cared for in a clean and hygienic environment.
We saw policies and procedures covering infection control, cleanliness, complaints and health and safety. The practice had contracts for regular maintenance of equipment. We looked at a sample of the practice's policies and procedures and found these to be detailed, clearly written and easy to understand. The policies and procedures had been reviewed and updated as necessary.
All staff and patients who used the surgery were provided with information on the risks to their health and safety, protective measures and what to do in the event of an emergency.
