Date of assessment 4th July 2024 to 12th July 2024. Little Oldway is a 'care home' that provides care and support for a maximum of 30 older people, some of whom may be living with a dementia and/or physical frailty. At the time of the inspection 28 people were living at the service. We looked at 7 quality statements; Safeguarding, Involving people to manage risks, Safe and effective staffing, Safe environments, Consent to care and treatment, Partnerships and communities, and Governance, management, and sustainability. We found 4 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safeguarding, notifications of other incidents, notice of change and governance. We have made recommendations in relation to the environment and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 25 June 2024

People who were able to share their views with us told us they felt safe and were happy living at Little Oldway. We received mixed feedback from relatives regarding people’s experiences. Most relatives told us they did not have any concerns for their loved one’s safety. Staff were kind and caring and the service was managed well. Two relatives told us that communication with the service could be improved. While people and their relatives expressed that they were generally happy with the care and support provided. Our assessment found the service was not always operating in accordance with the regulations and best practice guidance. This meant people were at risk of not receiving care and support that promoted their wellbeing and protected them from harm.
