Dr M L Swami and Partners, more commonly known as Russell Street Group Practice is a NHS GP practice which provides primary care services to approximately 8,900 patients from 3 different sites in Reading and Berkshire. Date of assessment 5 to 6 June 2024. We requested evidence from the practice, carried out remote interviews of staff and remote searches of the practices’ clinical system. The assessment also included a site visit to Russell Street Group Practice (referred to as the main site) and Coley Park Surgery (referred to as a branch practice). The assessment reviewed 26 quality statements across all 5 key questions (safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led). During our assessment, we found concerns around how the practice delivered safe care and treatment and the governance processes within the practice which resulted in breaches of Regulation 12 (Safe care and treatment) and Regulation 17 (Good governance) of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. You can find more details of our concerns in the key question findings below. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded. We have also asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 9 May 2024

Feedback from patients regarding the practice was positive and in line with local and national averages. This included data from the national GP Patient Survey and the NHS Friends and Family Test (FFT). During the assessment, we spoke to and received feedback from patients who provided positive feedback for all aspects of the practice. They told us that the practice was friendly, easy to access and, highly supportive of patients’ needs. They also highlighted the benefit and flexibility in having 3 different sites (the main site and 2 branch practices). Members of the Patient Participation Group (PPG) also reported positive feedback, advising how the practice had worked with the PPG to continue to identify where they could make improvements.
