Caring
People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

Kindness, compassion and dignity
Relatives said staff looked after them as well as their family members well showing care and concern. People said that staff listened to them. People said that staff were respectful of them and their home.
We did not observe staff caring for people in their homes. However, records reviewed showed that staff spoke about people in a positive way that respected their privacy and dignity. Managers spoke kindly about people and recognised how their care needs may impact on them and their family. They spoke of how they treated people and their family as individuals and respected their dignity.
Treating people as individuals

Independence, choice and control
People told us their care and support plans were developed with them and they were consulted about any changes. They said that staff worked with them and their family as a team. People said that they usually had the same staff who knew them well. People said staff supported them to do the things they wanted to do and when they went shopping this meant they were able to buy what they wanted.
Staff understood person centred care and were able to explain how they ensured people were given choice and control in their lives. Staff spoke positively about people.
People's choices and preferences were included in their care plans. These were regularly reviewed and updated as people's needs changed. Care plans showed the person and their relative were involved. Care plans showed the person’s independence was promoted in their personal care tasks.
