Delivering evidence-based care and treatment

Score: 3

Families told us that staff do discuss their relative’s health needs with them and discuss any changes. Families had no concerns about the care that was provided to their relatives.

The registered manager told us that she ensures staff are supporting people in line with best practice via training programmes, holistic competencies, care plans and by following policies and procedures. She also discussed how families are involved in their relative’s care – care is reviewed monthly in consultation with family and other professionals.

Some staff have had training in line with best practice and skills for care. However other staff had training gaps in areas such as the care certificate, autism, epilepsy awareness and diabetes awareness. The manager was aware of this and was in the process of arranging dates for those staff. Specific risk assessments were in place for example, a diabetes risk management plan for one person provided an explanation of diabetes, the impact on that person and how this should be monitored by staff.
