Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 13 June 2024. This assessment was brought forward due to a change in manager since the last inspection and concerns raised. Kings Court was a safe and happy home with confident, calm and caring staff. The home was clean and some areas were being redecorated. Policies and procedures ensured staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Care was carried out by trained staff, who supported people to be as independent as possible. Other healthcare professionals were involved in care planning when necessary. The registered manager told us people and families were involved in creating the care plans. Most activities were carried out on the ground floor and were not always attended by people on other floors, either because the activity was not appropriate for them or because they found it too difficult to attend. Staff were sometimes task focussed and did not always knock on doors before entering rooms. The quality of care varied between the floors.
People's experience of this service
People were happy at Kings Court and told us staff were kind and helpful. One person explained to us why he needed residential care and said, “I know that if ever I need something, or if I am not in good health, there is always someone here to help.” Another person said, “Goodness, I am safe here, safe in all ways. We are fortunate, the carers have time for everybody and are also very, very nice people.” People said call bells were always responded to and usually in good time. However, people living with more advanced dementia did not always have appropriate activities or stimulation throughout the day. Some lounges were crowded and lacked meaningful activity. People told us they wanted more activities at the home, and some people said they were not spoken to by staff very often. One person told us, “No- one comes in and asks me how I am”.
